Only one week into the campaign, and the part I was most nervous about is already over… The Announcement.
The candidate announcement officially went out three days ago. Now there’s no turning back and I could not be more excited.
I was surprised to learn announcing the campaign is the very first official step when running for office, at least in Manatee County. For some that might seem obvious, but I thought there would be other obligations first: file paperwork, pay a fee etc. Nope! You don’t get to take your time collecting petition signatures while you try to adjust to the idea of putting yourself out in the public eye.
You just… jump… in…
The positive reaction and outpour of support, from both friends and strangers, has been incredible. The next 10 months are sure to be full of highs and lows, but the last week has absolutely been nothing but a high.
If you’re curious to see what life on the Bradenton City Council campaign trail is like, follow this page for updates. Between being a mom, campaigning, planning a wedding, a full time job, freelance marketing work, Airbnb hosting and the occasional curveball that life enjoys throwing, I can’t promise I will write an update every week, (who would really want that anyway?), but I’ll be sure to share the most important and entertaining parts along the way. I am sure there will be plenty of both.
What’s in store for next week:
- File candidate paperwork
- Open a campaign bank account
- Appoint a treasurer
- My first excursion out collecting signatures (Can’t wait!)
- More updates to the website on campaign platform and ideas for the city
That’s all for now, but there will be much more soon! In the meantime, I’d love to hear from you in the comments below, on social media or through my contact page.
